The young parents didn't intend to put down roots in Oklahoma. After all, they were just passing through.
With just $200 in their pocket, and speaking no English, 26-year-old Cornelius and 24-year-old Anna Wall were taking their boys northward from Mexico to a new life in Canada. But along the way, the Land of Opportunity turned out to be the perfect place.
This is the story of Wall Equipment and Wall Bin Hoppers.
Always motivated to provide for his family, Corney took a job working for a corn farmer in western Oklahoma. As he learned the local language, and especially about agricultural machinery, he started to buy and sell equipment on the side.
"Always honor your word," Corney taught his sons, "and do what you say you're going to do."
That integrity - and deals sealed with a handshake - encouraged buyers to spread the word and want to do business with Corney again and again. Those values still inform every deal Wall Equipment makes today.
Something else happened along the way, however. In 1994, the farmer Corney worked for asked him to build a grain bin hopper. The young father had never done this before, but when the neighbors saw the quality of his work, they asked Corney to build hoppers for them as well.
For the next four years, Corney built, delivered, and installed grain bins in the evenings while still working full days on the farm. Occasionally the work stretched on until one o'clock in the morning, but the one-man operation cemented a reputation for solid results.
Corney had built enough success to go into business for himself. His oldest son Pete joined him, helping to erect bins, buy and sell equipment, and cultivate new customers at farm shows.
Today, Wall Bin Hoppers is a full-service contracting company that can handle grain storage projects in their entirety. Corney's younger son Jacob, a trained mechanical engineer, has helped the company diversity into big bins of 150,000 bushels and beyond.
The company motto - "Never Scoop Again" - says it all.
In 2019, Wall Equipment and Wall Bin Hoppers began constructing a brand-new headquarters along Interstate 40, just west of Oklahoma City. The new location along the major north-south corridor enables both firms to better serve their growing customer base.
Pete Wall is now the general manager of the Wall companies. Jacob Wall is the project manager, focusing on the bin hopper side.
And Corney Wall is still doing what he loves - going to auctions, and buying and selling quality equipment at the right price.
